Leaders-In-Training (LIT)

Completed Grade 10 or age 14 - 17 - Two-Week Camp Session

Our LIT program is designed for young leaders ready to take their first step into leadership. Through diverse activities fostering critical thinking and problem-solving, participants develop leadership skills for camp and beyond.

New this Year: Offsite Camping Adventure!
In the second half, LITs embark on offsite camping around Oahu. Camping with peers, the Teen Leader, and the Teen Director, they engage in Aina-based service projects and thrilling outdoor adventures like hikes up to 5 miles and snorkeling. Physical fitness is essential.

Course Highlights:
Leadership Focus: Two-week experience emphasizing leadership through service, support, and outdoor activities.
Week One: In conjunction with Resident Camp, participants undergo training and workshops on specific skills and executing a service project
Week Two: Outdoor portion includes camping at various Oahu sites, service activities, and outdoor adventures like hiking, camping, and snorkeling.

Course Features:
Service: Assist in camp programs, partner with local organizations, and execute a Camp Service Project (20 s.h).
Adventure: Ropes course, hiking, camping, star gazing, & snorkeling
Leadership: Morning Intentions & Evening Reflections, Leaders of the Day, Leadership Classes, Teamwork.
Technical Training: Small Group Training, EQ (Emotional intelligence), Resume Building, Interviewing, CPR & First Aid, & Wilderness Skills.

Mentorship & Beyond:
LITs benefit from mentorship by our Teen Programs Leader and cabin counselors. After completing the program, we encourage them to progress into our Camp Assistant (CA) program for continued leadership growth. The skills gained extend beyond camp, empowering teens to lead confidently in various settings. Join us for an unforgettable experience uniting leadership, adventure, and personal growth.

Camp Assistant (CA) - ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Completed Grade 11 or age 16 - 17 - Three-Week Camp

Camp Erdman's Summer CA Program applications are now open! Camp Erdman's volunteer CA Program is a great way to gain leadership skills, gain experience in youth development, meet new friends, and have tons of fun! The program runs in two separate three-week blocks and consists of a week dedicated to learning what working in a camp environment is all about, followed by two weeks of hands-on experience.

Designed to develop future camp leaders, our staff teach teens how to effectively lead groups, work with kids, communicate with peers and practice servant leadership. During the 2nd and 3rd week, CA’s join a cabin with experienced staff to practice those skills and learn what it’s like to be a role model for young campers.

Our CA applications will be posted right here on the website on March 1 and will be open through April 14th.  The application consists of filling out the YMCA of Honolulu volunteer application as well as a Camp Erdman supplemental application.  Upon completing the supplemental application, please email the Director of Summer and Teen Programs, Drew Markey, the completed form and he will be in touch to schedule an interview after the application window has passed.
