Inclusion Counselor -Young Adults

Position: Inclusion Counselor -Young Adults
Location: Camp Erdman
Salary Range: $400/week
Status: Seasonal (May 18, 2024 - August 2, 2024)/
POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Camp Director of School and Retreat Programs, this position primarily involves the coordination of the Wellness Through Work program, in conjunction with Abilities Unlimited Hawaii. The mission of this program is to give transitioning young adults with disabilities real employment experience in combination with the education and support needed to achieve a fulfilling independent future. The Inclusion Specialist will fill the roles of friend, mentor, and role model for all interns. The Inclusion Specialist must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA’s mission and goals, and a desire to work with individuals with disabilities. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor, and self-control are all essential.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge:
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is required.
  • Requires understanding of childhood development and group management in a general camp setting.
Education/Training:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or progress towards) in social work, therapy, counseling, mental health or equivalent preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid required.
  • TB test required.
Benefits:
  • Inclusion Specialist shall be a seasonal, non-exempt employee.
  • On-site, seasonal housing provided at no cost to employees. Housing includes gas, electric, water, and sewer utilities at no cost. Housing assignment is made at the discretion of the Camp Director of School and Retreat Programs, and per separate, written agreement.
