GENERAL FUNCTION:
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
- Manage health history and examination forms, as required.
- Follow established system for health screening for arriving campers and staff including checking for head lice.
- Conduct inventory of supplies prior to, during and after camp, and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies.
- Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medicine waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
- Coordinate coverage of the health center on stay over weekends.
- Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, first aid, and use of universal precautions for infection control.
- Make copies of routine safety and first aid procedures available to the staff.
- Distribute daily medications and communicate medication dispensing times to campers and staff.
- Make appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental personnel in the community and work with camp director to assign staff to transport.
- Administer and record all medications and treatments per ACA Standards and Standing Orders.
- File accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment.
- Collect on the arrival day, drugs, medicines, and first aid kits brought by campers and administer them as prescribed.
- Establish and carry out a regular program of cleaning and housekeeping to maintain a well-kept health facility.
- Prepare and maintain first aid kits for camp staff and activity areas.
- Monitor health of all camp staff.
- Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions in the camp.
- In addition to “close of camp” evaluation, make a written report to include: equipment inventory, requisitions for next summer, treatment records of campers and staff, infirmary and hospital admissions, visits to MD., recommendations for health department and medical examination records and records for insurance companies.
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
- Must be able to lift/assist campers or staff; read prescriptions and health exams from physicians; get to remote locations on camp property quickly, use telephone; observe and assess unsanitary or unhealthy conditions of camp
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Nursing School
- Experienced with children and young adults desirable
- Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintains records, and implements the health care plan.
- CPR/First Aid and AED (required)
- TB test (required)
- Desire to work and live in a camp community
- Must have current drivers license
