Careers Job Opportunities Child Care Preschool Teacher

Works directly with children enrolled in the Leeward YMCA Licensed Preschool. Plans and leads age and developmentally appropriate early learning experiences in a classroom setting, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children ages 2 to under 6 years of age. Reports directly to the Program Director or designated supervisor.

Skills/Knowledge:

• Prepares lesson plans utilizing monthly or weekly themes
• Supervises aides in their performance of all tasks required for a smooth running and quality program
• Sets up, plans and implements activities that teach gross motor skill and age appropriate concepts
• Plans and prepares snacks that meet state/federal nutrition and HEPA guidelines as needed
• Tends to toilet needs of children
• Ensures all safety and health/sanitation procedures are followed, including bathroom supervision

Education/Training:

• Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (according to Department of Human Services Licensing Requirements) or CDA
• Must be qualified as a Preschool Teacher for center-based programs on PATCH Registry
• Training in early childhood, early childhood education
• Registered on State of Hawaii Registry of Early Childhood Educators
• Experience working with young children and families, min. 6-12 month preferred
• Experience or training in facilitating groups, min. of 6-12 months preferred

Other Qualifications:

• TB Clearance required
• High School diploma or GED Verification of higher education training/coursework/degree/certification (see Qualifications) required
• Must meet all criminal history, employment history and/or child abuse/neglect history standards as required by the Department of Human Services Licensing Requirements
• First Aid and CPR Certification
• General office operations experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract
