Academic Tutor - Roosevelt High School

Position: Academic Tutor - Roosevelt High School
Location: Atherton
Salary Range: $18.00 - $ 20.00/hour
Status: Part time/Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Tutor is responsible for ensuring educational quality of the program and implementing the academic portion of the program model. Academic Tutors will specialize in either Math or Language Arts. Using the provided curriculum and strategies aligned to each school’s in- class instruction methods. Academic Tutors must provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment consistent with the program model and goals and ensure the academic success of students. Tutors report directly to the Site Coordinator.

All 21CCLC positions are dependent on the availability of funds and continuation of the 21CCLC contract. The current contract provides programming for the following three school years (2021- 2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024) with the possibility of extension for an additional two years (2024-2025 and 2025-2026).

HOURS:  Monday through Friday 12:15pm-4:45pm

Program Delivery:
  • Implementing (literacy, math, literacy & math) curricula and activities to meet academic standards
  • Participate in the program planning process prior to the start of the program and assist with student enrollment and parent events as requested
  • Utilizing formal assessment data to refine and adapt curriculum lessons and inform instructional practices
  • Deliver relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons utilizing a variety of instructional methods
  • Maintain an organized and efficient classroom
  • Adhere to all program and district professional expectations and compliance issues
  • Follow through on the determined positive behavior management system
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment that is motivating and holds students to high academic and behavioral expectations
  • Empower students to make positive choices and serve as a role model
  • Ensure the academic goals are met for each student
  • Ensure the ongoing health and safety of students and staff at all times
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and timely with the Site Coordinator regarding the ongoing needs of each student
  • Mentor and support the professional development of the Tutor’s assistants or volunteers


QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge:
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, well organized and multi-tasked oriented.
  • Knowledge or skilled in group work processes, program and staff development.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Skilled in general management and communications.
  • Must be proficient in Word and Excel programs, with Windows XP, Publisher, Power Point/ LCD projector preferred.
  • Ability to operate other software applications as required.

 
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching and facilitating academic instruction required
  • General office operations experience preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certified (training available upon hire)
